Day 1 - 15km
Merimbula Wharf to Hobart Beach
Meeting & Transfer:
We’ll collect you from your accommodation in Tathra at 8:00 am and transfer you to historic Merimbula Wharf. Before setting out, we’ll provide a detailed briefing, explain the route notes and safety equipment, and give you your packed lunch and snacks for the day.
Today's Walk:
Leaving Merimbula behind, you’ll make your way to Short Point before following trails through coastal dunes, forest and heathland. The route continues north across sections of beach and around Tura Headland, where rock platforms and striking geological formations create a dramatic coastal landscape.
Beyond Dolphin Cove, you can follow the beach or the forest trail depending on the tides and conditions. Entering Bournda National Park, the surroundings become quieter and more remote as you pass views of Bournda Island, cross the mouth of Bournda Lagoon and continue through coastal forest beside Bondi Lake.
Your walk finishes at Hobart Beach on the shores of Wallagoot Lake, where we’ll meet you and transfer you to Tanja Lagoon Camp. Settle into your safari tent or cabin, then reheat and enjoy your freshly prepared dinner whenever you’re ready.

Bithry Inlet to Mogareeka
Today’s Adventure:
After breakfast, we’ll transfer you north to Bithry Inlet in Mimosa Rocks National Park, where you’ll begin your walk south through one of the Sapphire Coast’s wildest and most beautiful coastal landscapes.
The route passes peaceful Middle Lagoon before continuing through spotted gum forest and along Middle and Gillards beaches. Colourful rock formations, forested headlands and quiet stretches of coastline make this a wonderfully varied day of walking.
Continuing south, you’ll reach Nelson Lagoon. When conditions are suitable, the route includes a lagoon crossing, so be prepared to wade or swim a short distance with your belongings secured in the dry bag provided. We’ll explain the crossing and current conditions during your briefing.
Beyond the lagoon, the trail climbs through coastal forest before descending into secluded Moon Bay. The final section follows the forested Fords walking track to Mogareeka, where the Bega River meets the sea. We’ll meet you there and transfer you back to Tanja Lagoon Camp for your second evening.

The route eventually descends to Kianinny Bay, a sheltered harbour and a lovely place to pause before the final climb. From here, follow the clifftop trail around Tathra Headland, enjoying sweeping views along the coast before finishing at historic Tathra Wharf.
