Walk the complete 32 km Light to Light Walk through Beowa National Park, following one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in southern New South Wales. Beginning beneath the historic sandstone walls of Boyds Tower, the trail winds south towards Green Cape Lighthouse through a remarkably varied landscape of rugged headlands, secluded beaches, coastal heath and quiet forest.

Over three memorable days, you’ll discover dramatic red-rock cliffs, hidden coves and wide views across the Pacific Ocean. Wildlife is a constant presence along this wild coast, with opportunities to encounter wallabies, goannas, seabirds and dolphins. From July to November, the elevated headlands also provide excellent vantage points for watching migrating humpback whales.

This is a fully supported, pack-free walking experience, so you carry only a daypack while we take care of your accommodation, meals, transfers and daily logistics. Our experienced local guides bring the landscape to life, sharing stories of the area’s natural environment, cultural heritage and maritime history as you walk.

At the end of each day, return to the remarkable Green Cape Lighthouse precinct. Settle into the historic lighthouse cottages, enjoy nourishing meals prepared with quality local produce, and share the day’s stories with your fellow walkers. With comfortable accommodation in such an extraordinary setting, the experience continues long after you step off the trail.

Meeting & Transfer:

We’ll collect you from your accommodation in the Merimbula area between 8:00 and 9:00 am before travelling south through Eden to Beowa National Park. At Boyds Tower, we’ll take time to enjoy the sweeping views across Twofold Bay and hear the story of this striking sandstone landmark before beginning our walk.

Today's Walk:

Setting out from Boyds Tower, we follow the coastline south through sheltered forest, coastal heath and open headlands overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Along the way, we’ll pause to explore the landscape, enjoy a nourishing trail lunch and look for wildlife—including migrating humpback whales during the winter and spring months.

Our first day finishes at beautiful Saltwater Creek, where the forest meets a sheltered beach and estuary. From here, we transfer to Green Cape Lighthouse and settle into the historic lightkeepers’ cottages.

Day 2 - 9km

Saltwater Creek to Bittangabee Bay

Today’s Walk:

After breakfast, we begin the day with a guided tour of Green Cape Lighthouse. Step inside this remarkable structure and discover stories of its construction, the lightkeepers who lived and worked here, and the maritime history of this remote stretch of coastline.

Following the tour, we transfer to Saltwater Creek to continue our journey south along the Light to Light Walk. The trail winds through coastal heath, grasslands and pockets of melaleuca forest, with regular openings revealing broad views across the Pacific Ocean.

We’ll pause at secluded bays and rocky headlands, taking time to appreciate the area’s wildlife, seasonal wildflowers and remarkable coastal landscape. After stopping at picturesque Hegartys Bay, we continue south towards Bittangabee Bay.

This beautiful, sheltered inlet has a long and fascinating history, with evidence of thousands of years of Aboriginal occupation and the remains of structures associated with the construction of Green Cape Lighthouse. After finishing our walk, we transfer back to Green Cape for time to relax before gathering for another nourishing dinner featuring local produce.

Green Cape Lighthouse to

Bittangabee Bay

Today's Walk:

After breakfast, we farewell the historic lighthouse cottages and begin the final day of our walk directly from Green Cape. Before setting out, there may be time to explore the precinct and scan the ocean for migrating whales during the winter and spring months.

We then follow the Light to Light Walk north through coastal heath, banksia woodland and open forest, enjoying sweeping views along the wilderness coast. Along the way, we visit the Ly-ee-Moon Cemetery—a moving reminder of the shipwrecks and maritime history that have shaped this remote coastline.

Continuing north, the trail passes striking red-rock cliffs, secluded coves and diverse coastal vegetation before arriving at beautiful Bittangabee Bay. Here, we complete our three-day journey and enjoy a well-earned lunch overlooking the sheltered waters of the bay.

FAQs

Everything you need to know before joining us.

  • What is the Maximum Walking Group Size?

Our scheduled Light to Light walks have a maximum of 10 guests. Keeping groups small allows us to offer a more personal experience, maintain a relaxed pace and minimise our impact on the places we visit. Larger private groups may be possible by arrangement.

  • Are children allowed on the walking tours?

Children are welcome on our private tours by prior arrangement. For our scheduled group departures, participation is limited to adults.

  • What sort of terrain will we encounter?

The Light to Light Walk follows a mix of formed bush tracks, sandy beaches, coastal heath and short sections of rocky or uneven terrain. There are some gentle climbs and descents, and creek crossings may occasionally require removing your shoes after rain. A reasonable level of walking fitness is recommended, but you’ll carry only a daypack.

  • Are the guides first aid qualified?

All of our guides are Wilderness First Aid qualified. We also carry remote area communications devices and comprehensive wilderness first aid kits.

  • Where do we leave our vehicles during the walk?

Most guests leave their vehicle at their accommodation in the Merimbula area, subject to approval from the accommodation provider. We’ll collect you on the first morning and return you to a pre-arranged location after the walk. Please contact us if you need help arranging parking or transfers.

  • What are the lighthouse cottages like?

The historic Green Cape Lighthouse Keepers’ Cottages offer comfortable twin and queen rooms in an extraordinary coastal setting. Bathroom facilities are shared within the cottages rather than ensuite. Towels and bed linen are provided.

  • Can solo travellers join the tour?

Absolutely! Solo travellers are very welcome. Our advertised price is based on twin-share accommodation, and a single supplement applies if you would prefer a room of your own, subject to availability.
